Photo Dave Nicholas and Barcboys.com 1957 – John Fitch in the beautiful magnesium bodied Corvette SS going through the infamous Webster Turns at Sebring in 1957. His co-driver was Piero Taruffi and this one-of-a-kind Corvette would fail to finish due to a broken rear suspension. This was the only competitive race for the car. In this photo Fitch is chasing the #6 Jaguar D-type of Briggs Cunningham and the Chevy Corvette of Dick Thompson. Ironically John Fitch entered that same Corvette he is chasing in this photo and it would finish 12th overall and first in class. The Webster Turns gained their infamy in 1966 when four spectators were killed here when they were mowed down by the Porsche of Don Wester after he had an accident with the Ferrari of Mario Andretti. Killed were a father and his two young sons and a mother of three.
