The Formula 2 Codasur was a competition of Formula 2 organized by the Confederation South American Sport Automobile (CODASUR) and was played in America of the South, between 1983 and 1986. This category had throughout its four editions a single champion who was Guillermo Maldonado, who aboard a Berta-VW, was crowned champion in all editions. It was replaced in 1987 by the South American Formula 3.

The idea of creating this category was strengthened after the high competitiveness shown by the categories of Formula 2 in the South American countries. In Argentina, as in Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Venezuela and other countries, the level of competitiveness was very high. Thus, in 1982, the creation of the South American Automobile Sports Confederation (Codasur according to its acronym) was decided and it was decided to unify the national categories into a single continental category. This category finally saw the light in 1983, developing circuit careers in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and other South American countries. Most of the pilots were originally from these four countries, although they were also from Venezuela and Peru.

The prototypes were mostly local chassis, equipped with engines of different brands, of which the most prominent were Volkswagen ( 1500 and Passat ) and Renault. Also, different bodybuilders such as Berta, Muffato, Ralt, etc. played their role.

However, despite the names and preparers, the category had only one champion throughout its four editions, since Guillermo Maldonado was crowned champion in the four opportunities that the category was played, manning a prototype Berta – VW 1500. In front of him, he had rivals such as Leonel Friedrich, Anor Friedrich, Luis Rubén Di Palma, Miguel Ángel Etchegaray, Guillermo Kissling, etc. The competitions were televised throughout the country and the Americas (call Argentina) by ATC Deportes, Caros Publicidad and Car A Vista Television and Canal 9 Libertad (Vertigo and You De Copiloto, Telearte Sociedad Anónima, Motor News and EMEU Producciones).
