1970 Nanni Galli and Rolf Stommelen were running fifth overall on Sunday morning at LeMans in 1970 in Alfa 33/3. Galli coasted to a stop right in front of me and spent several minutes trying to keep the marshalls a bay. Soon an Alfa mechanic arrived on a motorbike and coached Galli to get the car running enough to limp off to a DNF. 1971 – This is truly from a golden age of racing and shows the second place finishing 3-liter Alfa Romeo T33/3 of Nanni Galli and Rolf Stommelen ahead of the fifth place 5-liter Gulf Porsche 917 K of Jo Siffert and Derek Bell. BTW, I think that second overall was the best an Alfa ever did at Sebring in all the years they raced there. They also came in first in class at Sebring that year. I took this photo at the apex of Turn 11 on the old 5.2 mile Sebring circuit. The winning car that year was a Martini & Rossi 917 Porsche driven by Vic Elford and Gerard Larrousse.
