1968 Germany GP.
How did this one come about. Also on 4 August 1968 turned out to be a rainy day. But the plan was to go to the GP at the Nurburgring, so packed up and left early which was a wise decision. The crowds were large despite the bad weather. The start time was delayed partly due to severe fog. This gave me time to walk to a location that was familiar to me in order to get close to the track and thus have a good chance of taking pictures. Obviously miss the start though, it won’t be a good shot anyway. Arrived where I wanted to be, with the permission of the track commissioner and in support of my special Pers bracelet on his signal I was able to cross the track. That spot gave you the opportunity, to stand from a lower vantage point than the race track. Ideal with this weather. Suddenly the Police stood across the road and waved to come back. Pointed at my press tape and shook no. They stayed there until after the race, well my series of shots taken. They took me to a police station where they and I got to speak. After calling the press office, the air was quickly cleared. When returned to the starting area where near the car park my car was parked most of the crowd had already gone home.
