1966- XXVIII Großer Preis von Deutschland, Nürburgring Nordschleife, 7th. August 1966. Chris Lawrence in the J.A. Pearce Engineering entered 3.0 Cooper-Ferrari 250GTO Tipo 168 T73/F1-2-64. The car was lengthened at the engine bay to house the V12, and Hewland gearbox. The engine produced no more than 300bhp. though the Repco Brabhams was on the same level! Still, the exact engine’s origins are a bit vague, and might have had no more than 220bhp. which seems more likely, as the fastest F2 cars running all went past! The F2 cars were 1.0 engines at the time, with some 120bhp. I guess, but weighing much less the the Cooper-Ferrari, not to mention fuel consumption. Chris was running steadily in the wet race until he braked for the Süd Curve and the front suspension collapsed on lap 10. Photo Archiv Berkmanis and info ed Brunette
