1966 – Le Mans 1966 tests. I was located in front of the welcome and I followed the Ford with my eyes. I leave her to see the other cars arriving and hear the sound of the shock. I couldn’t see anything from where I was. The time to approach me the emergency services had turned the car over and removed the roof. Poor Walter Hansgen was still in the Ford. The LeMans track consisted of regular country roads. Sand was used at intersections to keep off-course race cars from plowing into traffic or villagers. Here’s my photo of a sand bank from 1970. Photo and info Jim Culp
