Josef Peters competed in the early 1950s with a sports bodied Veritas-BMW. As well as sports car events, he competed in F2 races at Avus and Grenzlandring (a race around the town’s ring road) in 1951.
A fuller schedule was planned for the following season and when the world championship was suddenly switched to F2 rules, his Veritas was one of seven such cars entered in the German GP. Unfortunately, in the race, at the Nürburgring, his engine failed after one lap.
He was third at the Grenzlandring later that year but what was his best F2 result was overshadowed by Helmut Niedermayr’s crash into the crowd that left several dead. His Veritas was also suitable for sports cars and Josef raced once in the new World Sportscar Championship. Sharing with Wolfgang Seidel, he finished fifth in the 1953 Nürburgring 1000Kms to win the 2000cc sports class, but this was his last appearance in a major race.
