Robert “Maserati Bob” Schroeder entered and finished the 1962 USGP at Watkins Glen. Qualifying 15th and finishing 10th, he was 7 laps behind the winner Jim Clark, but was not the last finisher. Schroeder, born in Arkansas, was a regional club racer who somehow came to the attention of John Mecom, Jr., a well known hot car owner and race entrant for multiple drivers. Mecom had rented a Rob Walker Lotus 24 Climax and placed Schroeder in the seat for the Glen and also for the first Mexican GP, a non-championship race that year, where he finished a credible 6th place, 3 laps behind the winner. Schroeder seemed to lose interest in racing after his somewhat overwhelming GP experiences and got on with the rest of his life. He passed away in Dallas in 2011.
