The first appearance of Il Barone Rampante in 1991 was quite a big bang for me. Not only the name was like a Hollywood 5 Oscars Harrison Ford movie, their achievements were great as well. They started with wild Guiseppe Bugatti with a total of 4 words English vocabulary (on Sky Channel every answer was the same “itte waaze vaary faaste…”) and Alex Zanardi, who was becoming my first big hero after Ronnie’s death in Monza ’78, can you imagine. For me he still is a big influence of sport achievements in general and more important: putting life in the right perspective. Also in 1992, with Andrea Montermini and Rubens, there was so much competition of very very good drivers in those years, the team was doing remarkable things.
And it was the comeback of Jan Lammers in single-seater racing. It was good the team only existed 3 years and did not die a slow death with many many years of no budget struggling; now the legend status will stay intact forever.
