1967 Suzuka 500km race, where Toyota showed up in full force. Both the Sports 800, a well proven car for endurance racing, and the new 2000GT appeared at the event with barely any competition. Taki Racing Team decided to not enter their 906 for this event – thus giving Toyota free reign. Leading in this photo is the #61 Toyota 2000GT of Hiroshi Fushida who would take victory overall with 84 laps completed. Photo and info via FB Historic Japanese Racing Cars
1968 Toyota 7 415S at its debut, the 1968 Japan Grand Prix. While having a 3L V8 powering the relatively light 890kg car, it would not be anywhere near quick enough to beat the Nissan R381 that ruled the early stages of the race. 1968 – Another incredible recently discovered photo of the 1968 NET Speed Cup, held at Fuji Speedway! Coming in at a very lengthy 90 laps, this was quite a hefty event to participate in, hence why the 3 giants (Toyota, Nissan and Taki Racing Team) clashed here! In this photo we see the #27 Lola T70 MKIII as driven by Masahiro Hasemi, he would qualify for 2nd place behind teammate Tadashi Sakai with a time of 1:55.38. He would turn out as the race winner! Following close behind we have Hiroshi Fushida in his signature white Toyota 7 (415S), who qualified just behind Hasemi with a time of 1:55.38, putting him 3rd on the grid; the fastest of all Toyota’s. Unfortunately during the race Fushida lost a few positions, and ended up in 5th place overall, 3 laps down of the top 4. Tom wrote an excellent post on this race back on February 19th, go check it out!. Photo and info from Historic Japanese Racing Cars

Hiroshi Fushida when he was testing something special: Mac’s-IT Rotax Special In the 1970’s Jack Hoare, developed a Can-Am racing car powered by four Rotax snowmobile engines. The vehicle was built with four two-cylinder 775cc (110hp each) Rotax engines, one powering each wheel, with a complicated drivetrain/transmission system, which contributed to not only power loss, but drive-shaft failure caused by problems balancing power output. The vehicle was tested but proved non competitive and never raced? Photo and info via FB Classic and Sport cars Japan
