1976 – Ian Scheckter drove his Lexington March 76B BDA to victory at the Kyalami Philips Formula Atlantic Rand Winter Trophy, today in 1976. Dave Charlton’s similar Lucky Strike car was second from Tony Martin’s Bic South Coast Motors Chevron BDA Nicholson. Formula Atlantic took over from Formula 1 as SA’s premier racing series at the beginning of 1976. An ex John Love and Tony Martin Chevron B25 driven by Mike Fogg in this race today resides at the Franschhoek Motor Museum alongside a later Scheckter March 78B among a marvellous collection of SA F1 and other cars.
